Attention, Southwestern Ontario stargazers! On April 8th, prepare for a celestial spectacle as a solar eclipse graces our skies. We’ve curated resources to aid you in securing glasses, understanding the eclipse, and crafting your own safe viewing devices.
Where to Get Eclipse Glasses
- Play a Latte Cafe (1601 River Road, Kitchener) – glasses can be purchased online or in-person for $5.50 each
- The Monarch Butterfly Eclipse Project – you can buy packs of 5, 10, or 50 online
- KW Telescope (25 Manitou Dr, Unit 3D, Kitchener) – call 519-745-5757 or visit them in-person to buy glasses for $5 each
- KW Astronomical Society – contact them via their webform
Make Your Own Viewing Device
Crafting a box pinhole projector from a cardboard box and common household items is both easy and enjoyable and makes for a great family project. It provides a safe way to view a solar eclipse and encourages kids (and adults) to learn more about the solar event.
